In the United States, women currently make up only 28% of the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) workforce.

In physical sciences, computing, and engineering that percentage is even lower.

Several years later, large gender imbalances still remain.

Motivated by her own challenges and achievements as a female researcher and biomedical entrepreneur, Dr. Kiana Aran established the Aran Nebula Foundation to support the next generation of women leaders in STEM.

In November 2021, Dr. Aran received the Nature Award for Inspiring Women in Science and used the funds from her award to establish the Nebula.
